Highlights from the Launch of the Centre for Education Action Research

The launch of the Centre for Education Action Research (CEAR) was a resounding success, bringing together a vibrant community of educators, researchers, and education enthusiasts, all eager to engage with this year’s cohort of action researchers. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as participants networked and engaged with the poster presentations, which highlighted a range of topics from coaching to English language learners.

Simon O’Connor, the visionary leader behind CEAR, officially kicked off the event by introducing CEAR, emphasizing the importance of collaborative action research in driving educational innovation in the UAE. Phil Anderson from the University of Birmingham Dubai followed with a presentation on their university’s Action Research Network. He discussed how the network supports educators in conducting meaningful research and facilitates collaboration across various educational institutions, reinforcing the power of community.

Fiona Cottam, Principal of Hartland International School, highlighted the significant positive changes brought about by action research at her school, providing valuable insights and inspiration for all looking to participate in action research. Finally, two of our teacher-researchers presented their findings about common educational challenges in the classroom such as using technology in the classroom and encouraging reading for pleasure.

The launch of CEAR marks the beginning of a promising journey towards enhancing educational practices through action research for all schools in the UAE. Stay tuned for more exciting updates from CEAR!
